Early technical work...
« on: April 23, 2009, 02:42:54 AM »
So I've been bored lately..and I used to be an RPG Maker guy way back when we were waiting on an american release of the psx rpgmaker.  Got involved with a community that used rpgmaker 95 and 2000 on the computer.  Don't know how many of you are familiar with that stuff.  Well anyway, I've been bored and working on a game with RPG Maker XP.  At this moment, I am modifying the default combat system up and adding some new things that weren't originally in it.  Sofar, here is what I was working on.  In the second screenshot, I've got some temporary character avatars that I threw in for testing (the actual characters i used to test it with have a 1-4 number in the avatars, as you can see one of them has a 2 lol)  It really is all early work, and I plan on working on it as I have time for it.

Hmm... yea I was using the one released after XP (VX as I recall) it fell through in production, yes that's right one week a sat my ass down and got all the pre-production out of the way. Due to the fact the battle system's supported at the time didn't exactly go well with how I wanted it to turn out.  I still have the files on my harddrive... but that harddrive happens to be a couple hundred miles away atm.  I might pick it up again If I see a few community members have released any new battle systems... seeing as I spent a long ass time spriting my characters xD. Also love the Battle BG of the SS.

I would love to make a modern day take on this kind of system, all games tend to be fantasy or future but this style of game with a modern setting might be interesting

Heh, mine had zombies in it :P

--edit--
Since I tried XP after VX, I don't think the awesomely pretty look of XP will be grabbing me over my experience in VX... even with it's blocky style.

I prefer XP over VX due to some of the more extensive testing i've done on VX.  I've been around the rpgmaker communities for a long time, and am a member of rpgcrisis and creation asylum, in which creation asylum actually has quite a few scripts and resources to learn off of.

And yah, the BG in the screenshot is a default one really.  I am going to be working on the graphics and sprites a bit more in depth when I get the basic systems down.  The battle system, I'm thinking, is going to be a first person one probably, but I might add sideview capabilities.

Mother for the win?

I've been wanting to make a game based around characters who represent the different tarot cards.

I really liked some of the turn based battle systems they had for XP... It seems everyone in VX likes live action a lot more as they tend to focus on it a lot.

Alright.  got some of it back.  In fact, I've done some changes and new approaches.  Working on the menu right now, and the title screen, but since it is still un-named, I'll keep the title screen to myself for now.  My idea on the game is to make it sort of like castlevania, only roleplaying game style, and not really focusing on vampires...

For now, here is the battle system minus custom graphics lol
